THE LAND
It was hot and dry in the Mekong Delta until the rainy season began.
The ground was so hard it was impossible to dig foxholes.
When the rains came it was very wet. The mud was a big problem. Getting
caught in it up to your waist was not much fun. |
THE PEOPLE
The
Mekong Delta was the most heavily populated area in South Vietnam. Most
of the people were very friendly, but the kid selling you drinks in the
day might be throwing grenades at you that night. |
THE G.I.s
From all parts of the U.S., these men were thrown into this combat area.
Most were draftees with anti-war feelings; many even wore peace symbols
and love beads in the field.
If any of the guys from the 3rd Herd are out there, please let us hear from
you. It has been a long time. |
